This is the most meaningful, satisfying work I’ve ever known. Just about all day, every day, we make super cool stuff for wonderful people alongside other makers.

Making functional art means a lot of security and adventure. Security: no matter what happens with the economy. politics, etc., folks are always going to need floors. Since they get the coolest-looking, most durable floors possible from us at a modest price, we will always have work. Adventure: every week you find yourself on a new job site serving a new client probably even creating a look that has never been done before.

Working on a team like this means belonging and significance. Belonging: you have the physical and emotional support of a dozen big-hearted teammates. Significance: this is the most respected team in one of the most respected trades in construction. Plus, you have the opportunity here to earn twice what that one teacher that didn’t believe in you makes. (:

Finally, be ready grow and contribute every year for decades. With most other construction trades, 30 or 40 years just means a lot of wear on your body. Here, it means mastery. Over time, you will 100s of techniques and mentor dozens of younger artisans. You learn to polish concrete and then you learn to polish other people. What could be more satisfying than building a great team to build great things?

We frankly only have about 5% acceptance rate. 19 out of 20 people probably ought to try to do something easier. This is as complex as construction work gets.
