We devised a material that worked like paint, but was integrally colored cement-based. That means it would not peel or fade in the sun like paint, yet allowed us to resurface the rocks while maintaining the texture. We have come to call it ReFresco. This was more than five years ago - our most innovative competitor started doing this five months ago.
